Super star Amitabh Bachchan is getting a unique honour. The Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mr. Mulayam Singh Yadav has decided to start a technical institute in Etawah in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur named after the great actor. The Institute will start functioning from the coming academic session.
The ‘Sting Operation’ carried out by a private television channel in which actors Shakti Kapoor and Aman Varma were separately caught on camera asking a young lady who posed as a struggling actress, for sexual favours, created waves in the Bollywood. It is learnt that the TV channel had captured producer Pahlaj Nihalani, star secretary and producer Rakesh Nath alias Rikku and some other film personalities on camera in the similar way. Some of them have lodged police complaints and have approached various authroities to pressurise the TV channel not to telecast such episodes. It is also learnt that Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray has asked the TV channel not to telecast any more episode of the sting operation, and therefore, the TV channel has stopped telecasting further such episodes, much to the relief of the Bollywood fraternity.
Actress Madhuri Dixit delivered her second child, a baby boy; while Karisma Kapoor and Raveena Tandon delivered their respective first child, baby girl in both cases.
Pakistan president Gen. Parvez Musharraf is learnt to have approved the proposal to screen an Indian film –Mughal-e-Azam in the cinema halls in Pakistan. Recently his son and brother had seen an another Indian film – “Khamosh Pani”, during their visit to India.
Three years back, two films were made simultaneously on the legendary freedom fighter Bhagat Singh. Both were released in India on the same day and both bombed at the box-office. Now, it is learnt that two films are being made on the historical story of Prithviraj Chauhan, by the same two film makers – Rajkumar Santoshi and Sunny Deol.

Actor Amitabh Bachchan will be getting an average of Rs. 1.5 crore per day for the shooting of Game Show “Kaun Banega Crorepati” between May1 and May 31 2005. Consequently he will not be shooting for any film during that period. Whether anybody else becomes a crorepati or not through the Game Show, at least Amitabh Bachchan is sure to be richer by almost Rs. 45 crore during one month long schedule.
In spite of three major surgeries, actor Sunny Deol has not been able to free himself from chronic back pain. He feels severe pain every morning when he gets up and every night when he goes to bed. Probably he will have to live with the pain in his back.

The Indian International film Academy will be holding a three-day awards show in Los Angeles in 2006. It has become a business these days to hold film awards nite, music release function, film premier of Hindi films in foreign countries. Such events bring in lots of money from foreign countries. A similar Indian Film Festival was also held at the Arclight Cinema in Hollywood in April this year. Recently a Global Indian film Awards Nite was held at Dubai, in which large number of Hindi film personalities participated. The Zee Cine Awards function was similiarly organised in London. The film folks go with their families to enjoy picnic at other people’s cost, while the organisers pocket huge amount collected from local spectators.
Komal Nahta, editor of an Indian film weekly has decided to take legal action against all those who have accused him of misbehaving with a lady employee of a Dubai hotel, during his stay for the global Indian film awards nite. The management of the hotel has denied that any such untoward incident took place.

A 12-day retrospective of super star Amitabh Bachchan’s films has been organised by the Lincoln Centre in New York from 8 april to 19 April 2005.
Hollywood star-producer Michael Douglas has finalised a deal to make his next film – Racing the Monsoon, in India in 2006. He would be visiting India with his star wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and may sign actress Aishwarya Rai to act in the film.
Novelist Salman Rushdie is planning a film based on his short story, ‘The Firebird’s Nest’, and is serious about signing Aamir Khan to act with Rushdie’s star wife Padma Lakshmi.

As many as five prominent film personalities have died in recent days. They are Ira Roshan, wife of great music director late Roshan and mother of Rakesh and Rajesh Roshan and grand daughter of Hrithik Roshan; actress Parveen Babi; actor Ghanshyam; legendary actor Gemini Ganesan, who was father of actress Rekha; and the top most villain and character actor Amrish Puri.
Legendary music director Khayyam is composing music for a Hindi film after almost 15 years. The musical man known for his outstanding compositions in “Umrao Jaan”, “Kabhi Kabhi”, “Noorie”and many super hit musical films has composed music for television serials and private albums during this period, but has taken up a film after a long gap. The film based on Munshi Prem Chand’s famous novel – ‘Bazar-e-Husn’, is produced by Ravi Agarwal and directed by Ajay Mehra. Lyrics penned by Maya Govind and Ahmed Wasi have been rendered by Kavita Krishnamurthy-Subramaniam, Alka Yagnik, Sunidhi Chauhan, Udit Narayan and Shailesh Srivastava. Music lovers are eagerly waiting for the release of the music, since Khayyam’s music is always a treat to their ears, heart and mind.
The Supreme Court of India has issued notice to Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar, producers of latest released Hindi film ‘Kaal’, alongwith the Government of Uttaranchal on the allegations that the film was shot in the famous Jim Corbett National Park without necessary permission. This is a case of gross violation of the Wildlife Act and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act as per the petition filed in the three judge bench.
Super star Amitabh Bachchan recently sent back a cheque of Rs. One crore, given to him by another super star-cum-producer Shah Rukh Khan. Amitabh is giving special appearance in Shah Rukh’s film ‘Paheli’, directed by actor Amol Palekar. At the end of four day shooting, when Shah Rukh presented a bouquet of flowers with an envelope, Amitabh thought that it was a ‘Thank You’ letter for the special act. But when he opened the envelope, he saw the cheque, which incidentally was not signed. Much to his horror, Shah Rukh realised his mistake that in all his excitement and haste, he had handed over an unsigned cheque. On realising his mistake, Shah Rukh telephoned Amitabh to apologise for his lapse; but Amitabh did not accept the payment. Amitabh explained to Shah Rukh that he had not acted in his film for money, and also cautioned him not to give an unsigned cheque to anybody in future.
Actor Fardeen Khan, son of Actor-producer Feroz Khan, is engaged to be married to Natasha, daughter of actress Mumtaz.

But ‘Sahara One Motion Pictures’ “Bose – The Forgotten Hero” directed by Shyam Benegal had its world premiere in Kolkata at the Eastern Command ground As per Guinness Book Record, Robert Altman’s “Brewster McLout” was premiered before 23930 people in Houston nearly 35 years back.
Actor-politician Shatrughan Sinha’s wife Poonam has turned a producer, with HINDI FILM “Mera Dil Le ke Dekho”. Incidentgally, the script of the film is written by Nandita Puri, wife of actor Om Puri.
Actor Vivek Oberoi has been accused of garnering publicity out of the relief and rehabilitation work launched by the Tamilnadu Government in the ‘Tsunami’ hit Tamilnadu areas. The Chief Minister of Tmilnadu J. Jayalalitha has said that state government has done 90% of the relief work, while Vivek has put in only 10% of the work.
After the success of colorised version in India of “Mughal-e-Azam”, some more old hit films are being colorised. They include “Dil Apna Aur Preet Parayi” and “Do Aankhen barah Haath”.
Two super-artistes came together recently to perform on the stage. Bhajan Samrat Anup Jalota and Tabla Maestro Zakir Hussain performed live together in some stage shows held in the USA. The audience enjoyed the first ever such combination. No other bhajan-ghazan singer has performed with Zakir Hussain anywhere in the past. Anup Jalota gives live performances in the USA almost every month, which no other Indian singer has done so far. He is also performing with singer Usha Mangeshkar and stage compere Kishan Sharma at the temple of Sri Badarinathji, which is situated nearly 11,000 ft. above sea level.
Coveted Award to Manna Dey
Two legends were given the coveted ‘Master Dinanath Mangeshkar Award’ recently on the death anniversary of great artist Masrer Dinanath Mangeshkar (father of Lata, Meena, Asha, Usha and Hridayanath Mangeshar). Bharat-Ratna Lata Mangeshkar herself presented awards to her senior colleague play Playback singer and music director Manna Dey (who completed 85 years of his life on the 1st May 2005) and the super star Amitabh Bachchan. Manna Dey was visibly moved and spoke highly about the Mangeshkars. He has sung a number of super hit songs with Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosale, and Usha Mangeshkar. Lata in her speech paid rich tributes to Manna Dey and said she cannot imagine what will be her condition when she turns 85, while Manna Da is perfectly healthy and is also singing beautifully even at this age. Amitabh Bachchan gave back the amount of the Awaqrd (Rs. Fifty thousand) to Lata ji for the social work that she has been doing as a member of parliament. Manna Dey has sung ‘Madhushala’, the popular composition of late Dr. Harvansh Rai Bachchan, father of Amitabh Bachchan, long time back. Lata Mangeshkar, as a gesture, sang a few lines of ‘Madhushala in the programme.
