Several artistes felt
cheated by an American NRI organiser Dr DS Sandhu recently. Sunny Deol,
Bobby Deol, Priyanka Chopra, Tusshar Kapoor, Urmila Matondkal and Shilpa
Shetty were booked by the organiser for the Diwali Dhamaka shows to be
held in America and Canada. While the cheques given to some artistes bounced,
some others were informed on their arrival in Chicago that the shows are
cancelled. It is reliably learnt that all shows have not been cancelled;
and the artistes are being persuaded to somehow participate in at least
the Los Angeles show. However, Shilpa Shetty and Priyanka Chopra are not
expected to perform in the shows since they have opted out after cheques
given to them bounced. They were clever enough not to take the flight and
stay back in Mumbai.
Actor-politician Govinda will appear with Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif along with Lara Dutta in Salman Khan’s home production, directed by David Dhawan for producer Sohail Khan. It is learnt that while Salman’s girl friend Katrina will team up with Goinda, Salman himself will appear opposite Laura Dutta in the comedy film, yet to be titled.
Director David Dhawan is remaking Manmohan Desai’s super hit, ‘Amar Akbar and Anthony’, without bringing in any change. The three Khan brothers - Salman, Arbaaz and Sohail will act as Anthony, Amar and Akbar played earlier by Amitabh Bachchan, Vinod Khanna and Rishi Kapoor respectively.
Actor and Censor Board chief Sharmila Tagore is appearing with her actor daugter Soha Ali Khan in Aparna Sen’s ‘Jewellery Box’ and also will appear with her actor son Saif Ali Khan in Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s ‘Eklavya’.
Sooraj Barjatya has recorded almost all songs for his latest film ‘Vivaah’, starring Shahid Kapoor, Amrita Rao, Anupam Kher, Alok Nath, Seema Biswas, Samir Soni, Lata Sabharwal, Manoj Joshi, Amrita Prakash, and Dinesh Lamba. Lyricist and music director Ravindra Jain has recorded songs for the film produced by Kamal Kumar Barjatya, Raj Kumar Barjatya and Ajit Kumar Barjatya; and directed by Sooraj Barjatya, who has also written the story and screen play. The film will go on the floors on 3rd December 2005.
During the last 50 weeks ending October 31 2005. a total of 230 films were released in India, and only 16 of them could earn money. They included ‘No Entry’, ‘Salaam Namaste’, ‘Bunty Aur Babli’ and ‘Waqt’; but most of them earned more money in the overseas market.
Late Sultan Ahmed’s hit film ‘Ganga Ki Saugandh’ is being remade by his wife Farha Sultan. She plans to take Abhishek Bachchan for the main role played earlier by Amitabh Bachchan.
Actor Hrithik Roshan came hurtling down on a canopy over a shop and escaped miraculously while shooting for his father Rakesh Roshan’s film ‘Krrish’ in Singapore. He was dangling from 50 feet above ground suspended by wires which snapped.
Well known producer-director Mohan Segal (84) died in Mumbai. He had made films like ‘Aulad’, ‘Devar’, ‘Kanyadaan’, ‘Saawan Bhaadon’, ‘Raja Jaani’, and ‘Ek Hi Rasta’.
Show man Subhash Ghai has announced five films on his wedding anniversary. However, one of the films has run into trouble, as another producer has already shot a film with the same title, ‘Money Money Money’. It is expected that Subhash Ghai will change the title of the film or drop the project for the present.
Rishi Kapoor’s son Ranbir and Anil Kapoor’s daughter Sonam will appear in the lead role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s new film ‘Saawariya’. Sony Pictures Entertainment will be co-producer of the film.
Producer-director Iqbal Channa has signed veteran actor Manoj Kumar to act in Mehar films Pvt Ltd’s ‘Ik Onkar’, which will mount the sets in December 2005.
As per reports circulated in the film trade, ‘Waqt - The Race Against Time’ has remained the top grosser in the UK, while it has remained at 8th position in the Gulf, where ‘Mangal Pandey - The Rising’ has topped the list, which is on the third position in the UK. ‘Salaam Namaste’ remains at the second top position in both UK and the Gulf.
Global Pictures UK and producer Ms. Laila Khan, a British director, have been accused of non-payment by Nishant Goyal, who wrote the script of a film ‘The Bollywood Fanatic’. Earlier also, another producer from UK, Gurinder Chadha was accused of using a song in one of her films without the permission and payment of any amount to the veteran music director Khayyam, who had composed the original song for ‘Noorie’.
Farah Khan is making a new film titled ‘Happy New Year’. She presented the script of her film to actor Shah Rukh Khan on his 40th birthday. Shah Rukh Khan will play the lead role.
Many film personalities, including actor Sanjay Dutt and Sunil Shetty had to hand over their big cars to the DRI in India, since the duty was not paid for their import.
Finally Nadeem and Shravan have decided to part their ways. Nadeem is in the UK and is wanted by the Indian police and other authorities in Gulshan Kumar murder case. Shravan had remained in Mumbai. Many film producers had still signed the duo to compose music for their films, and many singers had gone to the UK to record the songs in presence of Nadeem. But, now Shravan has decided to work separately.
A 36 year old Jabalpur housewife spent more than Rs. 1.5 lacs on sms in favour of Qazi Touqueer, who won the Fame Gurukul Competition on a television channel recently.

Child artist Ahsaas Channa has put film producer Karan Johar into trouble. Karan is shooting for his latest film “Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna” in the United States, where he has been sent a legal notice by Iqbal Channa, father of Ahsaas, accusing him of taking his child to America without his consent. Interestingly, six year old Ahsaas, who has been presented by his mother Kulbir Kaur Badesron as a boy all through, is in fact a girl. This fact, revealed by the father, shocked everybody. The mother, a television actress, is accused of exploiting the child for money. Iqbal Channa, a film producer, is staying away from his wife. Iqbal says that the shooting adversely affects Ahsaas’s sudies and the little girl is behaving all the time like a boy as per the instructions of the mother. Ahsaas has been a popular child artist and has appeared in many advertisements and a few films as a boy-actor.
It is surprising that Basti, a town in Uttar Pradesh, has voters with names of Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and Ajitabh Bachchan with address as house number 13, ward number 24. It has come to light that there is neither such an address nor the Bachchans have any connection with the town.
Anil Ambani and Ram Gopal Varma have come together to produce, market and sponsor films and other entertainment projects. They will be starting an audio company, a television channel and a magazine as well. Anil Ambani is also getting into overseas film distribution. As reported earlier, Anil Ambani has 51% stake in the Adlabs.

Parag Sanghvi of K. Sera Sera has signed actor Salman Khan for three films at a combined price of Rs. fifteen crores.
The latest Lux ad film featuring Shah Rukh Khan, Hema Malini, Sridevi, Juhi Chawla and Kareena Kapoor has some interesting reports. While Sridevi, Juhi Chawla and Hema malini were paid much lesser amount, Kareena Kapoor got Rs. 35 lacs for the ad. Imagine, what Shah Rukh Khan must have charged! well, it is learnt that SRK did not charge anything for the ad. film.
The Mangal Pandey case is taking many interesting turns. It is said that Yash Chopra filed an affidavit in the Delhi High Court stating that Mangal Pandey was not a freedom fighter. But later, Yash Chopra clarified that he has neither made nor instructed his advocates to make any statement that Mangal Pandey was not a freedom fighter. Yash Chopra has now stated that the film - ‘Mangal Pandey - The Rising’, is a fictional story in which certain incidents, characters, cases and timings had been changed for dramatic and commercial purposes. He has also challenged the authenticity of the ancestors of Mangal Pandey. The court has however declined to stop the screening of the film. Incidentally, two persons have filed petitions claiming to be the true descendants of Mangal Pandey.
Producer-director-lyricist Saawan Kumar will start shooting of his new film - Saawan - The Love Season, in the UK. Salman Khan, Kapil, Saloni, Johny Lever, Ranjeet, and Prem Chopra have been booked for the film, which will have music by Aadesh Srivastava.

Delhi High Court Judge Mukul Mudgal tried his best and succeeded in bringing Karisma Kapoor and her estranged husband Sunjay Kapur together, in the interest of their six month old daughter.
K. Shailendra has written and is directing a bhojpuri film, Naikee Dulhin, for producer Anjali Dutta. Mahesh Raja, Lovy, Uday Srivastava, Ashok Pandey, Shamim, Vijay Khare, Sanjay Pande, Girish Sharma and Lalan Prasad Singh have been signed for the film. Nagesh Kukunoor has been blamed by a call cenre worker Vipul of plagiarising his story to make ‘Iqbal’. Vipul says that he e-mailed his story to Kukunoor, but was shocked to find that his story had been claimed by Kukunoor as his own by only changing the game from hockey to cricket. Kukunoor, however, has refuted all allegations.

Salman Khan Meets the Conjoined Twins
Actor Salman Khan, in spite of his very busy schedule spent quite some time with the conjoined twins Farah and Sabah. The twins had indicated meeting the star as their last wish before their very difficult separation surgery. Salman Khan not only met them at his Pali Hill residence but invited them to the film City, where he was shooting. He played carrom with the twins, whevever he found time between the shots, and also had lunch with them. He also offered chocolates and gifts to the girls, who were thrilled to meet and spend one full day with their favourite star. The girls have different likings and dislikings, but they both had only one wish before the operation and the soft hearted Salman Khan made them happy for at least that one day.

Various mobile phone companies have joined hands with different channels and viewers are required to use mobile phones of only a particular company to send the SMS to the particular TV channel. The cost of each such SMS comes to Rs.6. Be it a game show, a talent hunt, a contest or a news bulletin; the SMS has suddenly entered the ring and it is showering money every day for the television channels, programme producers and mobile phone companies. Some people feel that the viewers are being taken for a ride by the concerned groups consisting of mobile phone companies, television channels and programme producers; who are presently busy counting the money only.
