Is Yoga a myth? 104 Year-old Young Man Proves it Works: 'Yoga Maharishi' Shelar Mama

Ramchandra Gopal Shelar, alias Shelar Mama, is popuarly known throughout Maharashtra in India as a leading freedom fighter and a great disciple of top ranking kirtankar saint Gadge Maharaj.

Shelar Mama, as he is affectionately called, has portrayed his ideal life of sacrifice, hard work, yoga and renunciation. He has earned highest skill and reached an acme in yoga science due to his prolonged, more than 60 years of yoga practice, and has preserved maximum wrinkle free lustre on his skin. He has been honoured with coveted ‘Bhishmacharya Award -2001’. He is like a blazing volcano. A centurian Mahatma, Shelar Mama, with his loud voice has turned hard rock into pieces, with the result that the audience listening to him becomes highly spirited and moved. With his thought provoking speeches, he has done colossal mass awareness work. His life has created affinity and love for him due to his fearless and bold life, full of vibrant individualistic qualities.

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, conducted all round pathological diagnosis of his body, which has revealed that Shelar Mama is a miracle in the medical sciences of 20th century. He is a staunch follower of Indian religion. During the Indian freedom movement, he had organised wide campaign through lectures across several villages and taught people the real meaning of patriotism. He was jailed several times by the British. In the course of his imprisonment, he came in contact with Acharya Vinoba Bhave. He is the best chosen disciple of saint Gadge Maharaj, who always believed that God lives among the people and service to the underprivileged is the real service.

In August 1998, during the second World Philosophers’ Meet held at Geneva, his gracious presence created anxiety among the delegates, who greeted him with thunderous applause. Recently, he was given the Dharmaveer Sambhaji Aharaj Award by the Forum of Non-addicted youths of Maharashtra. He is the Yoga Maharishi, a saint of present times.
