Box Office Report

by Kishan Sharma

A total of 253 films were released in the year 2006 (1st January to 31st December), out of which only 5 films did very good business in India. They are – Dhoom:2, Krrish, Lage Raho Munna Bhai, Vivah and Fanaa. Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, Dhoom:2, Don, Fanaa, Baabul and Lage Raho Munna Bhai did excellent business in the overseas market.

Rehguzar proved to be a non-starter. Unns proved to be disastrous. Janani also was a dull show. Mera Insaaf is bound to cause losses. Vivah is a slow film but proved to be a sureshot winner. Rajshri Productions Pvt. Ltd.’s Shahid Kapoor and Amrita Rao starrer has been made nicely by Sooraj Barjatya. Apna Sapna Money Money , a Mukta Atrs Entertainment film provides good entertainment. Plus Entertainment Pvt. Ltd.’s Deadline is a good thriller, but needs proper publicity. Bipasha – The Black Beauty is a waste. Yehi Hai U Turn will not attract public. Main Hoon Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi has nothing to offer. Yash Raj Films’ Dhoom:2 scores on account of sex, style, stunts and will stand out as the winner. Abhi To Raat Hai is absolute disaster. Aaj Ka Laawaris has nothing to entertain except action sequences. With Luv --- Tumhaara will fetch no returns at the box office.Ghayal may do some good business in small centres. Khatarnak Jaanwar will not make any impact at the box office. Nagina – Ek Vardaan is also a dull fare. Mahaarani will fail at the box office. B.R. Films’ Baabul has stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini, Salman Khan, Rani Mukerji, and John Abraham, but doesnot have box office attraction. Its collections in India dropped from the second day itself. But, it did a good business in the U.K. Karo Ya Maro is a fabulous action film and may do good business at the small centres. Yash Raj Films’ Kabul Express will do some business. Being a low budget film, it will not incur losses. Aryan is a dull fare. Dil Se Poochh…Kidhar Jaana Hai is a very slow movie and will fail at the box office. Bhagam Bhag , directed by Priyadarsan couldnot sustain and is sure to incur losses. I See You is a well made film for the classes, but has no future at the box office. Museum Ke Andar Phans Gaya Sikander did not attract the Indian audience. Inspite of Rekha’s presence, Kudiyon Ka Hai Zamaana seems to be a misplaced effort at film making and will prove to be an unmitigated disaster. Game has nothing to offer. People are now waiting for Saawariya, Salaam-E-Ishq, Tara Rum Pum, Chuck De India, Jodha Akbar, Namaste London, Guru and Traffic Signal, which all will be released in 2007.
