BOX OFFICE REPORT

Madras Talkies’ GURU, inspired by late industrialist Dhirubhai Ambani’s life story has been liked by the class audience. Written and directed by Mani Ratnam, the film got much publicity due to the engagement of the star pair Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai.. FRIENDSHIP by Deoyani Movies Pvt. Ltd. proved to be a big failure. Dayal Creations Pvt. Ltd.’s ANWAR is also a non-starter, despite presence of Manisha Koirala and Siddharth Koirala. K. Sera Sera’s RISK proved its title and the distributors are at a risk of loosing money. Interworld Motion Pictures’ MR. HOT MR. KOOL is a total loss. Orion Pictures and MAD Entertainment Ltd.’s SALAAM-E-ISHQ proved too long and too boring. Though the producers are shouting from the roof-tops that their film is on the top, but in fact, it is a flop. Serene Picture Classics’ PARZANIA is an emotional film but its box-office prospects are very bleak. Moreover, it may find some problems in states like Gujarat. Percept Picture Company’s TRAFFIC SIGNAL directed by Madhur Bhandarkar will get the red-signal in most of the places. Selected audience in Mumbai may find something in the film, but on the whole, it will not be able to attract the crowd. Saraswati Films’ PEHLA ASHIQ – PEHLA QATIL is an unmitigated disaster. Mid-Day Multimedia Ltd.’s BLACK FRIDAY is a well documented drama but cannot stand much of a chance at the box-office. Whispering Shadows Entertainment’s UNDERTRIAL has a well-made second half but would fail at the box-office. Vinod Chopra Films’ EKLAVYA has Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Saif Ali Khan, Boman Irani, Sharmila Tagore, Vidya Balan, Jackie Shroff and many others, but fails to attract the viewers. The Vidhu Vinod Chopra directed film got much publicity due to gimmickery played by him and Amitabh Bachchan before large crowd of media persons, but everyone felt cheated at the end of the day. The film may run for some time due to the presence of big names. Rajshri’s VIVAH is still going strong and has completed 100 days.
