An Honest One To One: Amrita Arora

by Rajan Patel

Amrita Arora

She was first recognized as Super Model Malaika Arora's sister. Malaika was also one of the most popular VJs (Video Jockeys) on MTV India and soon Amrita was a VJ with MTV. With her cute looks and a great body, she soon had loads of fan mail which not only increased her popularity but surely helped MTV India's ratings too . She then decided to enter Bollywood and was recently seen in David Dhawan's "Ek Aur Ek Gyarah", opposite Govinda and Sanjay Dutt. She has just signed "Sharth" opposite Tushar Kapoor and also stars actress Gracy Singh. Rajan Patel catches up Amrita in an exclusive in Bombay.

1. So tell us about your role in "Sharth"?

This film is a love triangle, but it is different in that it has been dealt with in a serious manner. I play a girl who is very introverted, protected and not very aware of the ways of the world. It's a love story that revolves around a bet, unfortunately which backfires and has deadly repercussions.

2. You have not been around for a while? Besides the recently released "Ek aur Ek Gyaraah". Why?

I"ve always been very picky about the films I do. I don't believe in signing any film just so I have back 2 back releases. I want to make a mark for myself and not sign any role that comes my way Fortunately, the films I'm working on now are fantastic with more meaningful roles, that are allowing me to display a lot more of my talent than seen before, they are all in the process of
completion. So, you will be seeing a lot of me in the months to come.

3. What are the other Bollywood projects on hand?
Rakth Produced by Vijay Mallya and Popcorn Entertainment ( Suniel Shetty's company) features me in an ultra glam hot role. I have just signed up Mahesh Manjrekar's new film, Tanuja Chandra's next, Sajid Nadiadwala's Mujhse Shaadi Karogi with Salman Khan, Shrey Guleri's new film which is said to be a remake of Charlie's Angels and Feroz Nadiadwala'a next.
4. VJing has got you more popularity than being an actress. Do you think you should have not dis continued that?
Nah…I love the movies. I'm in love what I do, and it's only a matter of time that my popularity will soar in bollywood.. Like all other actresses, I too look forward to that one big movie which will set things right and help shape up my career graph. Though vjing has been a great stepping-stone, one has to move on and see life on a lager spectrum
5. How does it feel when you are compared to your sister Malaika?
It feels great to be compared to one of the most beautiful and successful women our country has…so what if she happens to be my sis. She is more my companion and guide, malaika has achieved a lot in this industry for herself, hope I can do the same.
6. Who are your acting influences? Who are the acting icons that you look forward to
working with?
I love Madhuri, Sridevi, Kajol..I'd love to work with Amitabh Bachchan
