India International Foundation - 4th Annual Awards

Radisson SAS Portman Hotel in the West End of London was the venue for the 4th annual awards organised by India International Foundation, a charity based in West London. Mr Asoke Mukerji, acting High Commissioner of India was the chief guest and presented the annual awards. Viscount Slim and Adam Ingram MP & former minister of state for defence addressed the audience.

In his welcome address, the president Mr. HS Luther said, “In the present days of social awareness, it is essential to recognise the contributions of high achievers to the world.” Pointing out the sense of loyalty which Indians living in Britain have, he said, “Mother Devki gave birth to Lord Krishna, but Mother Yashoda brought him up to the well grown up age over several years. And Lord Krishna never forgot both mothers and respected them equally. The same situation is amongst us, people of Indian origin, how can we forget the country of our origin and the country that gives us opportunities, career and life.”

Referring to Indo-British relations on the economic front, the president said, “In 2004, India was the 6th largest investor in UK And in the year 2006, India became the 2nd largest investor in UK. ..India again emerged as the 2nd largest investor in UK in 2007. Simultaneously, UK is also the second largest investor in India...the brain drain is becoming now the brain gain for India as several foreign nationals have started settling down in India.”

Given the reason for the Awards, Mr Luther said,”Our brothers and sisters of Indian origin settled in Britain have been progressively contributing towards the various developments in their resident country. At such turning, we feel that they are the real achievers...We, at the India International Foundation, have taken this project to bring them out to the world and honour them for their achievements.”
