GANPATI UTSAV AT SALMAN’S HOUSE

Like every year, Salman Khan installed the Ganpati idol at his residence, on the Ganesh Chaturthi day. His mother, Salma, is originally a Maharashtrian Brahmin and she celebrates every Hindu festival. Entire family, including her husband Salim Khan and children, though staunch believers in Islam, celebrates all Hindu festivals religiously. Incidentally, the entire family also celebrates Christmas, because of Helen, who is Salim Khan’s other wife. This year Ganesh Chaturthi and Ramzan came together and so the family members observed fast and offered prayers. Salman Khan alongwith all family members participated in the ‘aarti’ of Ganpati idol, before it was immersed as per the tradition.


ASHA BHOSLE’S DAUGHTER IN ‘ICU

Playback singer Asha Bhosle celebrated her 75th birthday on the 8th September, and on the 9th, her daughter Varsha (51) was admitted in the Intensive Care Unit of Jaslok Hospital for taking overdose of sleeping pills on the 8th night. While most of the newspapers and television channels were busy giving the news of Asha Bhosle celebrating her birthday at her Prabhu Kunj flat on Peddar Road, she was actually at her son’s flat in far away suburb of Khar in Mumbai. Her daughter Varsha, who is a divorcee, and had tried unsuccessfully to become a playback singer, was staying at the Prabhu Kunj flat. Many people who went to the Prabhu Kunj flat to greet Asha Bhosle on the 8th, were turned away from the main gate of the building by the security guards, who were instructed by Varsha to tell everybody that Asha Bhosle no longer lives there and she also told some people who reached her flat somehow, that she has no relations with Asha Bhosle. The same night, she is suspected to have attempted suicide by taking overdose of sleeping pills, but family sources denied this. Later, Asha Bhosle visited her at the hospital, where doctors have described Varsha’s condition as ‘quite serious’.


MUSLIM CHILDREN CELEBRATE INDEPENDENCE DAY

Whenever there is any bomb blast or terrorist attack in India, generally some Muslim names appear in the list of suspected accused. Many people start accusing the entire community for anti-national activities. But, the Muslim children of Mumbai’s Andheri (West) area, proved that they are equally patriot. Encouraged by Mrs. Gulnaz Pashammbe and her husband Rafique Pashammbe, the Muslim children presented various patriotic cultural items, before a large gathering of Muslim ladies and gents on the occasion of Independence Day. Mahenaz, Asra Shaikh, Adnan, Aaliya, Aayez, Nuren, Saahil Shaikh, Iram Qureshi, Zaheen, Zaiba, Aasif, Abdul Rehman, Nadeem, Fahad, Mustuf, Sana, Simran, Saniya, Saba, Naziya, Ishaque, Nagma, Amina, Saad Shaikh, Afnan, Afsar, Shahid, Saoud, Nizam Ali, Suhel, Ashfaque, Ilahi, Imran, Moin Khan, Madina, Sameer, Iram Shaikh, Kafiya, Shahbaz, Sahil C.K., Sheraz, Aaysha and Shabnam took part in the colourful programme. Prizes were distributed to the winners in Dance and Drama competitions. The programme was organised by Ashiyana Welfare Society, which celebrates Indian Independence Day and Indian Republic Day every year.


GOKULASHTAMI MUSIC CONCERT

Yesteryear actress and singer Dr. Sushila Rani Patel, President of Shiva Sangeetanjali, organised a melodious music concert on the Krishna Janmashtami, which is also known as Gokulashtami. Popular film and television star Tabassum was the chief guest. At the age of nearly 90 years, Dr. Sushila Rani Patel, sang classical compositions in her typical style, which were appreciated by the large audience present. Ranjana, Aruna, Shiraz and Priyanka joined Dr. Sushila Rani Patel during her bhajan recital. R. K. Das presented some Krishna bhajans and Ameer Khusro compositions. Jayant Phadke, Suresh Gawade, and Milind Joshi supported the singers on Harmonium, Tanpura and Tabla respectively. Raghunath Phadke helped in organising the programme, which also had a flute recital by Pandit Arvind Gajendragadkar. He was felicitated on the occasion. The 81 year old Pandit Arvind Gajendragadkar presented an attractive flute recital, the instrument linked with Lord Shri Krishna.

THE UNFORGETTABLE TOUR

The Bachchans had taken every care to well publicise their Unforgettable tour. The list of accompanying stars was also very carefully drawn for different places. However, it is learnt that the Rotterdam and Oberhausen programmes were cancelled at the last moment, as the promoters were not too keen on them. Fans who had purchased tickets for these two shows were reported to be disappointed. It is said that the shows were cancelled due to lack of response from the audience. The tickets were very expensive, whereas Shah Rukh Khan’s Temptation shows were said to be much cheaper. Amitabh Bachchan is said to be distressed and as per him, some people had tried to pull his shows. It is also reported that Abhishek Bachchan had to dance on Akshay Kumar’s “Singh is Kinng” number on public demand at one of the shows.


SAJID NADIADWALA — SYLVESTER STALLONE –
AKSHAY KUMAR

Film-maker Sajid Nadiadwala has brought his childhood idol Sylvester Stallone and Akshay Kumar together in his film, ‘Kambakhta Ishq’. He has also signed Arnold Shweznegger and Brandon Routh to play cameo roles in the film. Sajid Nadiadwala flew to Hollywood alongwith Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor to shoot with Sylvester Stallone. The shooting was scheduled to start at 8 in the morning, but to everyone’s surprise, Sylvester arrived one hour early and gave a three page dialogue in one take. Sajid Nadiadwala says that his dream has finally come true .
