Friends Circle International celebrates Charter Night
by Rami Ranger
“Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” (The whole world is One family). This is how the High Commissioner of India His Excellency Shiv Shankar Mukherjee described India when he was addressing the Friends Circle International’s Charter Night where he was the guest of honour.
He said that in this ever shrinking world, we must consider ourselves as citizens of the world and live in peace and harmony as this is the only way we can enjoy life. He was pleased with the aims of the Friends Circle which are to build bridges between diverse communities of the world in order to improve social cohesion. He congratulated Indy and Surinder Aujla for taking the oath to serve mankind and to work to promote tolerance in today’s society.
The President, Lord Dholokia welcomed the guests and praised His Excellency for connecting with people at all levels. He also presided over the oath ceremony which made the Aujla’s charter members. He praised the couple for their public spiritedness and their willingness to put back into society from where we take so much out.
Dr. Nayar founder and World President explained the need to have an inclusive society in today’s fractured world. He said we must always work towards improving the lot of the less fortunate in society and share our fortunes with them.
Over 200 guests attended the glittering dinner and enjoyed watching Indian classical and modern dances. The Chairman, Dr. S P Sharma thanked the guests and especially His Excellency for taking the time out of his extremely busy schedule to attend the Charter Night of Friends Circle.
Indy Aujla on behalf of her husband Surinder and her family thanked the guests for making it a memorable night for them.
