It was a feast of colour, melody and skilled movements that entranced the audience at the brilliant Kathak dance performances by the students of Pandit Abhay Shankar Mishra. The students ranged from four to forty; and the dances were a confluence of the three famous ‘gharanas’ of Jaipur, Lucknow and Benares. The constumes of the dancers reflected the three schools; and some of the performances were indeed breath-taking.

At first the students gave specific dances related to each school. Later on, the dance sequence in which the three schools blended together was the very acme of kathak dance form that was mesmirising to say the least. The last dance sequence of ‘Lord Krishna and Gopees Raas Lila’ performed by the ‘best of the lot’ was an enchanting display of ‘nritiya’ and ‘natya’ performed with playful dynamism and sensuous love by the young dancers in such a rapturous mood that sublimated the senses into divine love. Our congratulations to the young Master Pt. Abhay Shankar Mishra and his dedicated students!
